Homeless People Advertising - Bumvertising™ Comments

The following section contains e-mail commentary that Mr. Rogovy has received in regards to this innovative homeless advertising method:

"Hey man, I think what you're doing is one hell of a great idea in action. Helping the homeless earn money for doing next to nothing is exactly what the homeless aim to do anyway. Firstly, they can turn down your offer, or they can realize that they are a shower and a clean pair of clothes away from a job at McDonalds if they truly want to "work for food"."
Russ Albany, OH - 9/26/05

"I just saw the Daily Show segment. Man, you've got guts to be in one of their pieces. I have got to respect that."
Matthew L. - 9/21/05

"You are helping them earn money actually doing something for others (a start), and solving a common business problem: how to maximize your advertising income. Politically incorrect? You bet! But I totally agree with your comment of "Possibly insensitive, Definitely accurate."
Chris Y. Seattle, WA - 9/13/05

"Great Idea , Don`t let those Idiots out there tell you your exploiting those Bums , They are working and actually earning cash , hows that exploiting ? You have very clever ideas !!! Would like to see you on the Apprentice , you would make the Series very interesting to watch !!!"
Martin - 9/14/05

"you shit-faced scum bag. go fuck yourself."
Shawn - 9/13/05

"You have brought attention ( however brief ) to an important social issue. As a former homeless person I find your creativity inoffensive. Dont let the "experts" on "Homelessness" put you down."
Jeff V. - 8/26/05

"I support your actions. Your creative thinking should be praised. I would be interested in what the "coalition" is doing to support those they claim to represent."
William, Seattle, WA - 8/10/05

"Find another term -- 'bum' is really derogatory and insulting..."
Jann, Seattle, WA - 8/10/05

"Ok, now that I have stopped laughing HYSTERICALLY, I'm interested. What are your ad rates?"
Christine - 8/15/05

"Kudos to your creativity! In the marketing/web design world we all seach for new ways to get our message across and I think you hit on a genius idea. Good job :-)"
Aly - 8/14/05

"Do not let the professionals get you down about the coined, (and I notice, trademarked!) name. The professionals, social workers etc., who are criticizing you, are worried that you are breaking their monopoly on "helping" the poor and/or homeless. Pfft! It is a great name and from what I can tell, those who are working for you are HAPPY about doing it."
Sally, Seattle, WA - 8/12/05

Please be strong and keep the name. It is cool and not so terribly derrogatory. I don't think the Bums mind it one little bit. It is only a problem for the ultra politically correct. "I think it would make a great business all across the country and it would put homeless people to work. Imagine businesses paying people like us to advertise their products or services with the help of the homeless, who need the work. It gives everyone a purpose. I think you are doing a good thing."
Robin, Bothell, WA - 8/10/05

"If you get criticism, just say that everyone's utility is higher. Also say that that's the whole goal of governments, etc, is to maximize global utility."
Asher, New York, NY, Economist - 8/10/05

"The idea is a clever one."
Richard, Seattle, WA, Professor of Economics - 8/10/05

"I just watched a news article on you and your endeavor. I think it’s brilliant. The gal from whatever bleeding heart organization they were interviewing needs to re-evaluate her thinking on how you are exploiting these vagrants. I don’t see her out there offering up anything. Here’s wishing you the best."
Randall, Seattle, WA - 8/10/05

"Good work! I like the idea. Good luck with your venture."
Ryan, Seattle, WA - 8/10/05

"Heard your CEO Ben on the Tom Leykis show on 8/15. Well good for you! Not sure how you could be exploiting the panhandlers. Like Tom stated you are giving them a job!"
Beau - 8/15/05

"This is a great idea. I'm in high school and I told my friends about this and we laughed our asses off. I heard it on komo 4 news then on the bj shea show then on tom leykis. Keep on bumvertising. I think you doing these people a favor. It's cash and food that they wouldn't have otherwise."
Brandon - 8/15/05

"I have to say, the homeless panhandlers are doing that of their own free will, and I don't think it would be degrading. I mean, it can't be more degrading than if a restaurant were to hire someone to dress up in a chicken suit and hand out flyers, hypothetically speaking."
Jake, Seattle, WA - 8/11/05

"Just heard your site on Tom Likas' Show. Love the bumvertising. Cool. Good luck"
Jake - 8/15/05

"Ben, you're a fucking genius. Good luck with this, sounds like it is working well."
Kevin, Seattle, WA - 8/10/05
